Brenda L. Schiavone
MSN, RN, PMHCNS-BC
Brenda is a graduate of the University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston, School of Nursing. She has a Master of Science in Nursing, and completed a dual track; nursing administration and psychiatric mental health nursing. Her undergraduate degree is from Prairie View A&M University. She became certified as a psychiatric clinical nurse specialist in August 2009.
Prior to joining Family Psychiatry of The Woodlands, Brenda was as assistant professor of Nursing at Texas Woman’s University. She has worked in a variety of roles within nursing; nursing administration, clinical education, nurse manager and staff nurse. She has worked at various psychiatric facilities in the Houston area, including The Menninger Clinic, Cypress Creek Hospital and Kingwood Pines. She has presented at national conferences on psychiatric mental health nursing.
She is a member of The Texas Nurses Association, The American Nurses Association, The American Psychiatric Nurse Association, The International Nursing Society on Addictions and Sigma Theta Tau International. Brenda was the recipient of The Nursing Education Award of Sigma Theta Tau in 2007 and the recipient of The Texas Nurses Association District 9 Nursing Excellence Award in 2009.
In addition to her private practice, Brenda is a part time faculty member at the University Of Texas School of Nursing, as a clinical instructor in the Department of Family Health. She is also a nurse reviewer for the American Nurses Credentialing Center, Pathway to Excellence Program™.
Her special interests include depression in women, especially antepartum and postpartum depression, eating disorders and the use of alternative therapies in the treatment of psychiatric disorders including health diagnostic testing and genetic testing.
Supervising physician is Dr. Marshall Lucas.
